Hello again, In the UK we have just survived a nasty spell off cold, snowy weather. (I suspect that some of us are not out of the woods just yet!) But, whilst home from work, and not able to get outside I read some articles on Arthritis, and one in particular worried me a lot. It relates to deaths caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
There has been some research done by the US journal "Clinical Cornerstone". This is what I found alarming; Over 100,000 hospitalisations per year are attributed to upper gastrointestinal problems associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs. The frightening bit is that about 15% of these people die because of their problems.
These figures relate to the United States and it equates to about 16,500 deaths per year. That is pretty frightening! Anybody taking these drugs should look at alternate ways to controlling the disease.
In the UK scientists at a well known Oxford hospital claim that the risk of death with long term use of NSAIDs is approx 1 in 2000, and this equates to about 2000 deaths per year in the UK. This is about the same number of people that die in road traffic accidents each year!!
Please take a look at some of the alternatives available. You have various options open to you and I can offer help by way of a diet.
For me this was and is highly successful. I no longer take any pain killers at all (except for the odd headache). Do yourselves a favour just take a look at the diet. www.arthritis-solutions.co.uk
See you in a few weeks.
