arthritis and sport

Hello all you arthritis sufferers, and welcome to Summer! We in the UK have just experienced the clock change which signifies that summer is just around the corner. However, not unusually for those of us that live here......we have snow, wind, and rain. Happy easter!
We have just returned from South Africa, and a great holiday with friends and also visiting relations. Happily my arthritis is fine! I was able to eat plenty of good healthy sea food, which is great for the diet.
I also took with me some of my wheat free biscuits, plus some all natural oat muesli. Our travelling companions thought me crazy, and in this day of luggage weight restrictions, a few kilos of breakfast fodder seemed mad, to them. To me....all important, because it enabled me to stick to my diet!
Two of us walked up Table Mountain! No mean achievement for an old arthritis cripple! It is 1087 mtrs in height, and virtually straight up! At one stage I asked our guide how many steps there were in that particular section....she riposted "3000". I was suitably demoralised at that point!
I also managed to play squash in Jo'burg, at approx 5600ft (height), so I will have some idea of what the footballers will be up against this summer, during the world cup! (sport -v-altitude)
So, plenty of activity on holiday, with plenty of walks on the deserted Plett bay beaches, and some golf thrown in, I returned thinner than before I went away! My golf was bad, but we played some really lovely courses.
I am still not taking any pain killers or anti-inflammatories for my condition.......it is controlled only via the diet. If you are reading this and suffer from this terrible disease, give yourself a chance to enjoy life again. I certainly am!
